Consists of two volumes that record daily transactions of Johnson's store from Oct. 9, 1815 to May 7, 1816 and from March 16, 1820 to Dec. 15, 1820. A wide variety of merchandise is represented, including shovels, knives, clapboard nails, "woman's morocco shoes," nails, tacks, screws, bed cords, buttons, spelling books, dictionaries, spoons, tea kettles, tea pots, tumblers, shawls, pails, baskets, ribbons, pins, tea, coffee, rice, rum, and a "mill saw warranted 30 days against flaws." In addition to items kept in stock, Johnson placed special orders for his customers. The note "on file" was written next to most of the entries, indicating the information was transferred to a ledger. The days of the week are noted in headings at the top of each page; the store was closed on Sundays and holidays.
